The Embassy Promotes the Work of Women Creators in Music

As part of Embassy activities to highlight women creators, the Cultural Section participated in a recital of works by U.S. and Spanish female composers at the International Institute on Wednesday, November 21.  Featured were historical composers Amy Beach, María Rodrigo, and Eugenia Osterberger and contemporary composers belonging to the New York Women Composers Association, the Women in Music Association (Spain), and students from the New York Philharmonic Very Young Composers Program.  After welcoming remarks by Embassy Deputy Cultural Attaché Ryan Matheny, a group of female performers comprised of mezzo-soprano Anna Tonna, pianist Isabel Pérez Dobarro, violinist Mili Fernández, and soprano Angélica de la Riva took the stage.  This concert was the second one to be organized in collaboration with both associations, the first being held in 2017.
