Statement by Ambassador Costos Regarding the Attack in Orlando

I grieve with America and the world over the horrific murder of 50 people and the wounding of scores more at a nightclub in Florida yesterday morning.  This attack of terror and hatred is much more than an attack on the gay community – it is an attack on all of America.  It is an attack on the values and rights that define us as a country: equality, dignity, and the right to pursue happiness.  I thank the Spanish people for the overwhelming outpouring of support and sorrow in the wake of this tragedy.  In the coming days, I know we will stand together, supported by our friends around the world, to show that love is stronger than hate.

For those interested in expressing their condolences for the terrible attack, a book of condolences will be available at the Ambassador’s residence (Castellana, 48) on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (June 14, 15, and 16), from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.

**Graphic media wishing to access the residence in order to film the book must be accredited by sending an email to embusapress@state.gov.
