Ambassador Reynoso and Glenn Close opened the screening of the documentary “The Lavender Scare”, narrated by the U.S. actress, at Cineteca Madrid. “The Lavender Scare” tells the story of an unrelenting campaign started in 1953 by the U.S. federal government to identify and fire government employees suspected of being homosexual. The documentary follows Astronomer Frank Kameny’s fight against his dismissal from NASA during a time when thousands of U.S. government workers lost their jobs because of their sexual orientation. During the event, Ambassador Reynoso stressed “this documentary tells a hard story; however, since then, we have come a long way for the defense of LGTBIQ+ rights and many things have changed in our country and in the world. This is a priority for the government.”
