In an emotional ceremony in the Chapel of San Ildefonso at the University of Alcala de Henares, King Felipe VI presented the ´Fulbright Trajectory Award´ to Javier Solana. In his speech, the King highlighted how Fulbright exchanges promote ´cultural understanding that are essential to overcome obstacles and challenges and build a better world, free from prejudices. ´ The U.S. Embassy Chargé d´Affairs Conrad Tribble also participated in the ceremony. As Honorary Co-Chair of the Fulbright Commission, he recalled remarks King Felipe made in 1993, when then, as Price of Asturias, he accepted an Honorary Fulbright award to study his Masters degree at Georgetown University in the United States. He stated that ´looking back at 2020, which has been affected by the pandemic that has made academic exchanges so difficult, we can confirm that the Fulbright program, and the ideals that it embodies, are alive and well, and looking confidently toward the future.´ In his acceptance speech, Javier Solana stated that, if he were able, he would look [Senator Fulbright] in the eye today and tell him: ´your dream has come true´.
