The Embassy Public Diplomacy Officer for Education and Entrepreneurship, Justen Thomas, inaugurated both the third and fourth Conferences against Disinformation held respectively on May 3 at the Deustobide School of the University of Deusto in Bilbao and on May 24 at the “Aula Abierta de Mayores” of the Pablo de Olavide University in Seville. Both events were part of a VIA-Círculo Jefferson Alumni Association´s cycle funded by the Department of State Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund and addressed to an audience of Spaniards 55 and over. Miguel de Oyarzabal, Vice President of VIA-Círculo Jefferson and both universities’ academic authorities participated in the openings. The Bilbao conference addressed how disinformation can seriously affect brands, marketing, or consumer behavior. During the Sevilla conference several exchange alumni experts discussed how schools should include lessons on understanding and countering misinformation. Both events included a Learn to Check workshop on how to verify photos and videos.
