Health Alert – Update on Specific measures implemented in Catalonia and Aragon in response to outbreaks detected in both regions. – U.S. Embassy Madrid, U.S. Consulate General Barcelona (18 July 2020)
Location: Spain – Level 4: Do Not Travel
Event: Due to outbreaks detected, the regional governments of Catalonia and Aragon have approved specific measures to contain the spread of the virus in some specific areas within these regions.
Use of masks is compulsory in both regions in all public spaces.
Catalonia Update:
On July 17, the Catalan regional government approved new measures to reduce/control the outbreaks that have been registered in Catalonia during the past few days. The government asks the population of Barcelona, 12 cities of its metropolitan area and in over 30 cities in the Lleida province, to abide by new regulations and to follow outlined recommendations to avoid a future total lockdown. These measures will be in effect for at least 15 days, effective July 18

The regional government of Catalonia recommends that the population remain at home and only leave for indispensable reasons. For specific details see Catalonia’s Official Gazette

Restrictions include:
- The capacity at bars and restaurants will be set to 50% in indoor areas.
- Nightclubs, cinemas, theaters, gyms, and children’s indoor playgrounds will be closed.
- Social gatherings will be limited to 10 people, preferably only with people you have contact habitually.
Aragon Update:
In Aragon, on July 14, the regional government also established specific measures for Huesca and the counties of La Litera, Medio Cinca, Bajo Cinca, Bajo Aragón- Caspe and Comarca Central due to the outbreaks detected in these areas. For specific details see Aragon’s Official Gazette.
The regional government of Aragon recommends avoiding any travel to and from Huesca and the counties affected.
Restrictions include:
- The capacity at bars and restaurants will be set to 50% in indoor areas.
- The capacity at retail stores, nightclubs, cinemas, theaters, gyms, and any facilities offering cultural activities will be set to 75%.
