Health Alert – Extension of State of Alarm to June 21 – U.S. Embassy Madrid, U.S. Consulate General Barcelona (5 June 2020)

Event: The State of Alarm will remain in effect until June 21. The Spanish government is gradually relaxing confinement measures in phases. These measures will vary from region to region.
At this time, Spain’s borders remain closed to non-citizens/legal residents of the European Schengen zone. U.S. citizens may depart Spain, but will not be allowed to enter.
The Government of Spain has published instructions regarding the stay of foreigners in Spain during the State of Alarm due to COVID-19. For more information, see our May 21 Health Alert.
Your best source of information about Spanish travel limitations and immigration requirements is the Spanish government. Useful information is available on the website of the Spanish airport authority, AENA.
Keep in mind that a mandatory 14-day self-quarantine period for inbound travelers to Spain will remain in effect through June 30. For more information, see our May 14 Health Alert.

- Monitor Spanish government social media and local press reports for details on the de-escalation phases and confinement measures in your area.
- Follow the instructions of local authorities. Not doing so could result in fines or arrest.
