Event:  End of State of Alarm on June 21

The last day of Spain’s nationwide State of Alarm is Saturday, June 20.  On June 21, the Spanish government will lift the current nation-wide confinement measures. Some restrictions will remain in place, however, and will continue to vary from region to region within Spain. Restrictions on travel to Spain by American citizens without EU citizenship or residency remain in place.

Beginning June 29, we will gradually resume regular citizenship (passport and Consular Report of Birth Abroad) services by appointment only at the U.S. Embassy in Madrid and at the U.S. Consulate General in Barcelona. If you need to renew a passport, and do not qualify for a mail-in renewal, please visit our website to schedule an appointment in Madrid or Barcelona. The Spanish government requires that face masks be used by everyone age six or older in enclosed spaces. This includes the Embassy and Consulate General.
