Go American English! Inauguration

Chargé Ben Ziff  hosted on October 5  at the International Institute the launch ceremony for Go American English!, a two-year microscholarship program that will provide a foundation of English language skills to bright 14 to 16 year old students from disadvantaged sectors of Madrid society through after-school English classes.  The event  concluded  with the screening of the film Hidden Figures, introduced by visiting NASA systems engineer Christina Diaz.

The program, which succeeds the similar 2015-17 State Department-sponsored Access program at the same two host institutions (Fundación International Studies near the Embassy, and the Fundación Tomillo in the southeast of Madrid) seeks to provide students with conversational English language skills under the instruction of both Spanish and American English teachers.   It will also give students the opportunity to gain an appreciation for U.S. history, culture, and values; increase their ability to participate successfully in the socio-economic development of Spain; and improve their ability to compete to participate in future U.S. academic and professional exchange programs.
