English Language Expert Shares Bilingual Content Education Techniques at University of Alcala Conference

State Department-sponsored English Language Specialist Ann Mabbott capped a month-long visit to Spain–during which she conducted teacher training workshops for both pre-service and in-service bilingual teachers in Extremadura, Tenerife, and Oviedo —in Alacalá de Henares on November 17th.  She participated in the University of Alcala’s 4th International Conference on Bilingual Education in a Globalized World – Contemporary Approaches to Learning and Teaching organized by the Franklin Institute and sponsored by Madrid´s Department of Education, in which she delivered a plenary talk on Preparing Teachers to Coach Their Content Colleagues in Bilingual Programs to an audience of one hundred educators. The Embassy appreciates the contributions of the Spanish Association of Bilingual Education, the universities of Caceres, La Laguna, Oviedo and Alcala, and the regional departments of education of Extremadura, the Canary Islands, Asturias and Madrid, all of whose collaboration led to the outstanding results of Dr. Mabbott’s work with Spanish bilingual educators and policy makers. Dr. Mabbott’s visit was the 8th such visit of a State Department-sponsored English Language Specialist to Spain in seven years, including collaborations in previous years with the autonomous communities of Andalucía, La Rioja, Valencia, Castilla-La Mancha, Cantabria and Madrid.
