On Tuesday February 13, as part of the U.S. Embassy Madrid Speaker Program, David Simons, the Counselor for Management spoke to students of the Embassy-sponsored Go American English! program at the International Studies Foundation. Simons explained what an Embassy is; its role in the diplomatic relations between two countries; and the full spectrum of political, consular, economic/trade, and public diplomacy work done by Embassy employees in Spain. The students, who just began the biweekly after school conversational English classes this Fall, learned about how the diplomatic presence in a country advances America’s ability to cooperate with allies and partners to achieve shared policy goals through dialogue and negotiations. The students participated by asking insightful questions while practicing their developing English language skills.
