On October 16, Assistant Secretary for Educational and Cultural Affairs Marie Royce met with 15 alumni of U.S. exchange programs including the Fulbright, International Visitors Leadership (IVLP), and YTILI (Young Transatlantic International Leaders Initiative) Programs. The Assistant Secretary explained to the group, “I’m a passionate champion of people-to-people exchanges… I wanted to meet with you today to recognize your work and your accomplishments as Exchange Alumni and thank you for your hard work in strengthening our people-to-people ties even further after your exchange experience, and cultivating mutual understanding and friendly, peaceful relations between the people of the United States and the people of Spain.”
Assistant Secretary Royce encouraged the alumni to stay connected and highlighted the significance of the Department of State Exchange Alumni network, which includes more than 500 former heads of state and 84 Nobel Laureates. The Department of State Exchange Alumni network in Spain has over 8,800 alumni. Currently, there are two U.S. Exchange Alumni Associations in Spain: the Spanish IVLP Association VIA Circulo Jefferson and the Spanish J.W. Fulbright Alumni Association.
Assistant Secretary Royce is currently visiting Spain this week to take part in the 60th anniversary of the U.S.-Spain Fulbright Program.
