President Obama’s historic trip to Cuba is another step in the process of normalizing relations between the U.S. and Cuba, a process which will improve the lives of the Cuban people and open up additional opportunities for engagement, both people-to-people and government. This will benefit not only Cubans, not only Americans, but also people from other countries – especially those, like Spain, with historical ties to Cuba. In travel, in tourism, in infrastructure, Spanish companies – some already in Cuba – will have new opportunities as the island becomes more accessible. The commercial opening of Cuba has the potential to empower and improve the lives
of Cubans.
