With the main objective being to promote diversity in Secondary Education institutes to prevent bullying, the U.S. Embassy collaborated with the head of Spain’s chapter of the American organization It Gets Better for the project “Allies for Diversity” (AxD). To help in this program, the Embassy invited Jared Fox, the liaison between the LGBT community and the Department of Education for New York City, who uses the city of New York as an example of inclusion for the LGBT community. His model is based on four fundamental pillars that differentiate it from other school systems: student solidarity associations, inclusive policies, supportive educators, and inclusive plans for the LGBT community. During his visit, in both Madrid and Seville, Jared Fox met with students and professors at Compultense University of Madrid, the organization Empieza por Educar, leaders for education on diversity for FELGBT, Asociación DeFrente y REDI (Red Empresarial por la Diversidad e Inclusión LGBTI), among others.
